Recently when i was in India, I observed that the Television is being bombarded with shows of regression therapy. NDTV's "Raaz Pichle Janam ka" and on Kannada channels there are two shows running by Bala Krishna Swamiji a engineer turned yogi and ramachandra Swamiji a well known regression therapist. There was a discussion on one of the channels involving Bala Krishna Swamiji, a Buddhist Lama, a Neurologist, a social worker, and an atheist. The discussion's main topic was "is regression therapy a real deal?". The interesting part was, no one could prove it wasn't a real deal. I was amazed at concept and started reading about regression therapy on a few sites. To my amazement i found out that it was the brain child of yogi Patanjali. He has shown how to access the brain to retrieve data from our previous births and learn how to utilize the knowledge to live better lives in the current birth.
At eAnveshan, we could really use some more information about the same. Please anyone, who knows a lot more about this topic, kindly contribute. I will write some more, if i can understand what yogi patanjali has said.

regression : not related to the past

everything is ok about the regression therapy, but I dont agree with the past life concept. See we are science students, and not orthodox, and science do not suggest anything about past life. Infact, how could it be possible ? One can remember past with his subconscious mind, a very true and obvious fact.
But if the body along with the mind , which is supposed to remember, is burnt or graved, then how come he remember the past life ? I could not find any reference in Gita ,of krishna talking about anything such as remembering the past life, he just suggests there is life after life and so on. But why we misinterpret these things and adopt them as orthodox beliefs. Swami Vivekananda said, if there is concept of Punrajanma (rebirth ) then its all in the same life. We get the fruits of our Karma in one life itself.
I agree with you to some

I agree with you to some extent Mahim. When we talk purely scientific, rebirth is impossible, as the body and the mind perish after death and when the mind does not function, how can we ever hope to have memories. However, these memories are not of the body, they are about the body. we are here talking strictly soul. Science says, there is nothing called a soul. But as you also say, in bhagavad gita, Lord Shri Krishna had has talked a lot about soul.. and one of them is. Naynam Chindanti shastrani and so forth. Which basically means, a soul is indestructible. Many yogis say, a soul enters any living beings body to experience the life of that life form. It could be a tree, a mouse, a lion, a human and so on. Science needs tangible evidence to agree on anything. but there are so many things intangible in this world... for example, emotions, just because we can't see them, only feel them, we can not say there is nothing called emotionss. Also science can not rule out the fact that there is something called life, it is so evident in nature all around us. For anything to be Alive, a soul has to be the key ingredient, or that life form is dead. Science can not find a formula for life, we can manipulate life by genetics, but we can not make life. So just because science can not make life, it does not mean there is nothing called life.
I am not saying that there is something called rebirth for certain. I think there is a huge possibility of it being true. Science can only go so far explaining the phenomenons of nature, that is where spirituality steps in. Many scientists agree that there is a very thin line between science and spirituality. the day people can combine the both, human race will be all powerful. Science comes by constant thinking and spirituality comes when the mind is completely silent... so they explain the same things with different perspectives.
cultures worldwide have this belief of after life and many believe in reincarnation. If so many cultures have similar faith and belief, isn't there a small chance of this being true. I think we must explore such opportunities. It is also a matter of realization, so even if we get a lot of proof of rebirth, unless we experience it ourselves, it will be very hard to believe in such things.
More on prati prasava

The content below explains the word Prati Prasava, as i read on indianetzone.
The "te pratiprasavaheyah siiksmah sutra" defines about the elusive adversities and the ways to curb them. The afflictions can be gross, or both, however, they can be eliminated by strict meditation. Though they look dormant from the surface, it does not need much time to erupt forth. They are in high need to be curbed, otherwise they might give rise to sadder conditions.
te these
prati in opposition, against
prasava procreation, generation (prati prasava = involution)
heyah to abandon, desert, relinquish, emit, renounce, abstain
suksmah subtle, minute, delicate
Subtle afflictions are to be minimised and eradicated by a process of involution.
Afflictions may be gross or subtle; both must be neutralised and eliminated, quietened at their very rootage.
The five adversities - ignorance, egoism, lust, malice and attachment to life (11.3) appear gross (sthula) on the surface, but their subtle nature may be either latent or highly lively, or may alternate between the two (11.4). Meditation helps to exterminate them.
The subtle afflictions start with attachment to life, travel in the reverse order, contrary to spiritual evolution of n.3 and end with the gross affliction, ignorance. Subtle afflictions need to be overcome before they lead to sorrier trouble.
Now the question that arises is that, how exactly does one overcome them. If a seed becomes seared, it cannot sprout; so one must render an affliction infertile by tracing it back to its source. The mother of subtle afflictions is the mind, whose movements should be directed towards the seer by the yogic process of involution (prati prasava). In this manner, subtle afflictions are crushed and an un-polarised state of pure knowledge is chanced upon.
So, if a soul carries all these afflictions of many births, it tends suffer. In order to restore itself, one must go in the reverse direction. Meaning, we all look outward or somewhere else for solution to our problems or to balme something for our situations. Prati Prasava is going inward and trying to get rid of the afflictions mentioned above. In order to do that, we ned to understand where our souls had been and the kind of experiences it had.
This is as far as my understanding goes. Please post if it means something else to you.

Regression Therapy

This is about self hypnosis or being hypnotized by some one in order to access our subconscious mind to know about our past lives or past forgotten incidents. This actually helps the subject under going the therapy to deal with the problems they are facing in their current life time. For example, if I am terrorized by fire and do not know the reason why? I can access the incident stored in my subconscious and try to see what happened to scare me so much. Once i learn the cause, i can deal with the problem in future positively. It is like traveling through time in past to learn about ourselves. When we learn more about our own past lives and where we come from, we can make peace with our current situation. For example, if a person remains poor even after earning a lot of money and is distressed about his/her situation. That person can go into past lives and learn more about their karma so he/she knows why his/her life is the way it is. It will also answer our age old questions, where do I come from? WHY ME? and etc.
Yogi Patanjali said that our soul carries the impressions of our past lives. This is the shaping factor of our characters and behavior. This also determines what we get and we don't. In order to gain more understanding of our own self, all of us will need to make this particular journey.
If anyone knows more on this topic, kindly post.

I tried to search on the google about this and found there are so many such centres which claim to extract all information about your past from your mind. I remember, once I read people coming out of coma of long years, are masters in this regression therapy and also in telepathy( they are able to find the location of missing people and help missing people meet their families ). But I dont know about the validity and accuracy of such methods, as these are para normal and cant be defined by science (at least telepathy ) , but incidences of verification of such sciences have been done.
Though , regression therapy accurately defines how it is working, now we need to find the ancient Indian roots of such therapy, and will try to relate the Pauranic stories with this therapy also, whenever I read one.
I shall invite specialists of regression therapy to put light on the subject, so that our community should be able to find out the ancient roots about this therapy. to give their
