You have done a good job of introducing the subject for research. Keep it up.
Maybe some comments would not be out of place.
You have taken up only two categories for suggesting that Mahabaratha does have something to offer for Management science.
Before we go into those topics, we need to bear an important aspect in mind. The canvas on which Mahabaratha has been painted is much larger than the purview of Management science, though this subject is also very vast. If you really ponder you will realize that life is managing every step. Mahabaratha on the other hand deals not only with managing every step we take but something more. Mahabaratha deals with relationships and images. To live is to be related. You have relationship not only with people, but environment, elements and situations in life. In providing a definite and unique key in this respect Bhagavat Geeta, a part of Mahabaratha has become eternal. As we go along we will have more to dilate and discuss.
There are five and not only two categories one need to consider for any such comparison.
Management science deals with an enterprise (any enterprise) and its continued existence and prosperity. Therefore there are five aspects that need to be addressed. 1) The objective of the enterprise; 2) The means of achieving the goals of the enterprise; 3) Motivating the people who contribute to the enterprise; 4) The lines of communication to facilitate the goals of the enterprise and 5) A process of continues research relating to all the aspects of the enterprise so that the enterprise can address new challenges for survival. Now you will be able to juxtapose the two-Mahabaratha and Management better.
Many waters have flown down the rivers since Mahabaratha times to present day. There have been some good developments and some bad. To live today we have to be realists and look at the changes with an open mind and not cling on to old ideas which many times become a burden. Even if the wisdom of the past has greater merit you will have to sacrifice it to address the challenge in front of you. The challenge is always unique. We don’t give our full attention to it most of the time. We bring in our past knowledge and experience to cloud our judgment and land into a complicated situation.
One of the bad developments, in my personal view, is money and monetary economy. It has grown so big and vast nobody will think about its merit or otherwise now. It is here to stay. It has completely changed the motivation of man. The good aspect is that generally man is better informed and does not repose blind faith or belief in any matter that concerns him. However there are many gray areas and organized religion is one.
Means of communication and communication skills have definitely improved from the time of the epics. Do we need to look back? Even today as in that era, communications can play havoc. Take the innocuous grapevine at the office which has immense capacity to cause trouble.
